New & Improved Features
Collections
Improvements have been made to the Collections Page UI navigation to make it easier to access and perform actions across the panels and functions. Thank you to all the pilot partners for the feedback on the previous UI that informed these updates and improvements.
The majority of the improvements were made to the Content Panel on the Collections page. These improvements include:
- A row of action buttons now displays permanently at the top of the panel. These buttons duplicate the actions you can perform by right-clicking on a collection, folder, or file.
The new row of action buttons is located at the top of the Content panel.
- Clearer navigation elements to make it easier to know what actions you can perform in Vault’s collection hierarchy. When you select a collection, folder, or file, the actionable buttons will display as blue. If a button is grayed out, that means the action is not available to you.
Action buttons available at the collection level.
For a full breakdown of the available actions for the Collection, Folder, and File levels, see the help article Creating and Managing a Collection in Vault.
- New workflows to make it easier to complete your desired action. Each button, when selected, now either displays a modal that clearly outlines what is required to complete the selected action or takes you to the relevant area in Vault where you can complete the action.
- For example, clicking the Move button presents you with the ‘Select a new location’ modal. From here you can select your desired location from your file tree structure. Clicking the ‘Move’ button on the modal will confirm and complete the folder or file move to its new location.
-
Note: You can only move Folders and Files.

Admin
- The Users Tab now displays a table of all the users associated with your institution’s Vault account.

- From the Users Tab, institutions can now create new users for their Vault account and manage their details and permissions. Vault now includes different user permission levels assigned by “roles” — this release includes Admin and User roles, and a future release will include a Viewer (read-only) role. For a full breakdown of the user roles and privileges, see the help article Administering Your Vault Account. If you would like your user account to be given Admin Role permissions, please contact us at vault@archive.org.
- Reference to the Help Center has been removed from the Administration page and a link to Vault Help Center documentation is now permanently accessible from the top navigation bar.
Next Release Planning
- Priorities for the next release (without guaranteeing all work will be completed by then):
- Revised Dashboard layout
- Addition of a Viewer (read-only) user role
