Seed management

You may use groups to help you manage your seeds in our web application. By adding seeds to a group, you may quickly filter your Seeds list by either typing the group name into the search bar or selecting the group from the checklist enabled by the "Groups" column header link:

You may also use group assignments to share seeds across collections in bulk automatically, rather than moving them individually.

Public access

Sites in each 'Group' that you create will also be listed together under the designated group name on your public collection listing page (at archive-it.org). Each group will also have its own page on the site, with its own unique URL, from which it provides access to these sites.

One common use case for this is when the URL for a specific site is not persistent over the years.  Specifying these URLs as a 'Group' allows collection curators to identify seed URLs that should be considered the same site. Because each group has its own unique URL as well, you are able to link to that group directly when providing access to your collection from your own domain.

How to create a group

To include seeds URLs in a group, go to the Seeds tab for your collection, check the check-boxes next to the seed(s) that you would like to include in a group and click on the "Edit Groups" button. From here you can add the seed(s) to a new group or to an existing group:

Once a group has been created, you may edit the name of the group, or remove the group entirely by clicking the "Manage Seed Groups" button and using the controls on the right side of the dialog.

How to view/access a site group

From the public collection page for your collection, click the name of the site group you would like to view.  You will then be taken to a page that only includes site that are listed as part of this group.  If you need to link to this site group from your institution's website, use the URL of the page that is just for the group.

Further information

• When a site group is created, it will be listed on your collection's page at the top of the facets list in the left-hand sidebar (as seen in the screenshot above). If you have multiple groups, they will be listed alphabetically. 
  
  
• Groupings of sites do not extend into the Wayback interface (although we hope to have a feature to view related URLs together in Wayback in the future), so when viewing the 'calendar page' that lists all capture dates for a specific URL, this page will still be for just one URL, and will not list capture dates for other URLs within the site group.
