URL Re-directs
My institution has changed its name, and hence its domain name, and has put up re-directs. Also, they have now moved all of our sites to https. Should I go in and create new seeds using the current URLs, or are the re-directs sufficient for the crawler? So far so good, but I don't want to be surprised.
Thanks!

Hi Barbara,
I recommend adding the current URLs as new seeds and using seed-level and/or collection-level metadata to clarify the relationship between the old and current URL for end users. The redirects may be working fine now, but it's possible that these will change in the future and you may not be kept in the loop by the webmaster. As a consequence, regularly crawled seeds should point to the new URL to ensure that your future crawls will be successful. If the URL change were just from HTTP to HTTPS, you could just edit the existing seed, but because the domain has changed new seeds should be added to the collection. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
Many thanks,
Mary
